"AM444 is responsible for some of the most progressive beats coming out of the scene. The duo creates an incredible global feel, sampling sounds far beyond the borders of China or America. AM444 brazenly emit a dynamic avant-garde underground feel."
"Jay and ChaCha’s diverse musical experience and backgrounds make for an LP/EP that goes pretty much everywhere the two of them have been musically in their careers to date, all in just eight songs.(..) This is a very accessible record, made with minute attention to detail.(..) No beating around the bush – it’s a quality release."
"AM444 are one of the most exciting electronic music talents to have emerged from this city. On Eye Wonder, ChaCha’s brilliantly sultry vocals are backed by Jay.Soul’s sexy funk beats to produce an eight track album that blends underground sensibilities with sheer pop appeal. Infectious choruses abound, with the hooks from ‘Ni Wen Wo Ba’, ‘Shen Xian Yao’ and ‘Eye Know’ near impossible to shake from your head while the title track that finds AM444 at their most irrepressible."
Time Out Shanghai
AM444 is the Shanghai based collaboration of Chinese singer ChaCha (Kode9, RedBullMusicAcademy2011, Clive Chin, Jimi Tenor, Desto, etc) and Dutch producer/dj Jay.Soul
(Mr. Windmill & Jay.Soul
, Sole Profit, Cecilia Stalin, Corey, etc). After years of thoughts, discussions and drunken promises, the pair have finally been in the studio for the past few months and the result is their 8 song debut release Eye Wonder.
It's a jazzy, funked up, dubbed out, Chinese language sonic assault and some of the most exciting music to come out of Shanghai in a while, already receiving radio play in London, LA, Europe and around Asia. Although hard to say what genre AM444 fits into, with elements of hip-hop, electronica, funk, dub, pop and soul, it's just sounding super dope. From the deep dreamy grooves of ‘Shen Jing Mo Shao’ to the full on digital bomb ‘Ni Wen Wo Ba’, Eye Wonder is a landmark release for Chinese underground music.
